Red Tapism

Paperwork...Paperwork....More Paperwork....
So much of paperwork to be completed on a daily basis to continue to do something like a PhD....Today I met the Grad Sec and she started yelling at me for having missed 1 more in a series of deadline misses. These have really been close calls...I was so close to losing status at one time....and then two weeks later my admission to the PhD program was rebuked because I didnt have funds....Talked to my payroll officer only to find out that I hadnt accepted my Funding offer in time...So had to Cut a few trees to get enough paper to complete all that paperwork that was required.... Then suddenly one day i realized that my registration to a crse in Summer was cancelled because of non-payment of Tuition....Run again to payroll office to set that right....It took a whole week of Paperwork to get that straightened out....And in every case contrary to popular perception theres a whole lot of paperwork to be done in this country also....The only difference is once you complete the form and turn it into a certain office they will then FAX it to themselves and the others....(More paper!!!)....Thats their use of technology....

Anyway today i realized I cannot register for any PhD Research credits coz I havent completed some Form...and without these I would duly be out of status again!!!(Unless i register for another crse which i dont want to).. So here I go filling out another set of Forms....Red color in this specific case...

Man. I really feel like i am living on the EDGE.

Bloody Mouth

This weekend was stormy...and in more ways than one....
Spent Saturday and Sunday doing nothing spectacular...
and ended sunday with a bloody mouth!!!
I was playing Volleyball when it happened....
I was engrossed in the game..and we were just gettin back into the lead from being down 5-0. So everybody in the team was a lil worked up...especially coz Dinner was the wager. I am not sure who served the ball...in any case that is irrelevant . When the ball came back to our side it was about to fall behind Manav and in from of me....So i ran forward and dived ahead..My eyes affixed on the ball....Suddenly i heard a thud and then felt a huge shoulder crashing into my jaws......and then both me and Manav were down...for sometmime atleast...Took some time off to clean the bloodied mouth before game resumed...Let it be noted that we went on to win the game...
The painful jaw resulted in my sleeping early yesterday...It has also been a welcome relief to most of my friends here coz i talk a lot less now!!!..

PotLuck

So Gaurav had a Potluck at his house yesterday.....Well he keeps saying "I have a potbelly with no luck :(( ....
The Potbelly itself had a lot of luck yesterday...with some Good FOOD. There was Pav Bhaji, Palak Paneer, Bisibelebadh, Aloo Gobi, Fruit Salad and Of crse AWESOME Buvanas Awesome samosas(Prashant of crse bought tomato sauce(Hersheys))....I was the biggest sole contributor to the great quality of food available. That i was gracious enough not to interefere with any of the cooking process in any way watsoever helped the cause......

Kudos to Gaurav....and hope his brief tour to India is a success story...(Especially considering the fact that he wishes he cld get married during this trip!!!).

Interesting Read

Finally some interesting work coming up on the cards.....I might have to capture video from four synchronous cameras just outside my building in the university. These cameras which would be mounted atop the building roof will capture color video at hopefully 15 frames/sec or greater. It will be interesting to get these cameras hooked up and running. I am hoping to capture a day worth of data..But lets see....

This comes to me as a real boon at a time when my work enthu was at its lowest ebb and my work timings were consequently suffering BIG TIME. The data (if at all i manage to capture it well enough) would be used for several experiments (I shall not bore u with the details of these!).....

I will post an update on this on Friday

Gaurav + Meeting == False

Gaurav is a labmate of mine...No seedha saadha ladka he is. Today theres gonna be a potluck at his house. But his luck has not been so good as far as meetings with our advisor goes...Its been rotten so far. Gaurav has been an RA under our advisor Dr.Rama for about two years now...our advisor has called him on meetings as few as 4 or five times and these are the replies he had to give on those few occasions

R: The FRGC meeting is on Sep8. Come for that.
Gaurav: Sorry sir, I am in India at that time!!!

R: Can we have the smart camera group meeting on Monday?
Gaurav: Sir, I am leaving to UK on Sunday. Sorry.

R: We are supposed to go to New Jersey for the distributed systems meeting on Sep 10.
Gaurav: Sorry Sir. I will be flying back from India only on 11th.

R: Can I meet you taday evening at 3:30?
Gaurav: Sorry Sir. I have to be at Dulles to pick a friend from the airport....

The NERVE this fellow has is indeed terrific.....
Lets see how long this lasts.

Todays Gameplan

Today has been just as boring as has been the last few days...Been extremely low on motivation to do any productive work. Fell like spending the entire day without moving a muscle(Ideal way Murr would say I am sure). Anyways, Murr visited me yesterday. On some conference blowing away his Profs money.

By the way yesterday we (some 10 Junta) in college park, went for a movie...Mr.Smith goes to washington). It was screened on the mall...Saw the stars above. Didnt care 1 wee bit about the movie...I still dont know who Mr.Smith is.

Had to work up quite a lot of enthusiasm to start this Blog...This has drained me of all the energy i had left in me for the day...So all those friends i had decided to email today will not receive their emails I guess...

Let me see how tomorrow goes....Its probably time i retire.

So Finally I have taken the herculean leap forward...Here I go creating a blog page for myself after weeks of intense speculation and internal turmoil. Hopefully this Blog page will remain alive and kicking!!!
